BPS Bengkalis Socializes the 2026 Economic Census at Bengkalis State Polytechnic

BENGKALIS: The Head of BPS Bengkalis Regency, Sudiro, SST., M.Si, and his team conducted a Socialization of the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026) and Statistical Literacy in the hall of Bengkalis State Polytechnic (Polbeng) on Monday, 24 November 2025. At the event, the team from BPS Bengkalis Regency was directly received by the Director of Polbeng, Mr. Johny Custer, S.T., M.T., and staff.

In his remarks, Mr. Johny expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Head of BPS Bengkalis Regency and the team for their visit to Polbeng. This was the first visit and a very good moment for both parties. He hoped that during the implementation of SE2026, Polbeng students could be involved as field officers. The experience of becoming SE2026 field officers would certainly be very valuable for students, enabling them to understand the process of statistical data collection in the field.

At this event, there were two agendas delivered by BPS Bengkalis. The first was statistical literacy, discussing the theory of inflation with the Head of BPS Bengkalis Regency, Mr. Sudiro, as the speaker. The second agenda was SE2026 socialization, delivered by Mr. Rakha Fajar, SST.

In his presentation on inflation, Mr. Sudiro emphasized the importance of inflation figures for business actors as well as the public. Therefore, it is very important for students to understand the theory of inflation because it serves as a control function over the governance carried out by executives, whether the President, Governor, or Regent. This ensures that the public obtains consumer goods at affordable prices.

Controlled inflation provides room for companies to gain continuously increasing profits and broad expansion opportunities. However, if negative inflation (deflation) occurs for a relatively long time, companies will find it difficult to make profits due to continuously decreasing prices, which may ultimately lead to an economic recession.

In 2026, BPS Bengkalis Regency will again conduct the 2026 Economic Census. One of the objectives of SE2026 is to provide basic (comprehensive) data on all non-agricultural economic activities in Indonesia as a foundation for development planning and policymaking. Compared to the other two censuses (population census and agricultural census), the economic census is the most challenging because census officers will inquire about business activities.

BPS Bengkalis hopes that Polbeng students can join as field officers, as students generally have better intellectual capacity to absorb the material delivered during training. Field officers will receive training before being deployed to their assigned areas.

The 2026 Economic Census has no relation to taxes. The data provided will be kept confidential both in the field and after being processed by BPS. The 2026 economic census officers do not collect any fees. Census officers are also equipped with official assignment letters.
